The Centre is governed and managed by the Kimihia Early Learning Trust and we welcome all children between the ages of 3 months and 5 years.
The Centre was purpose-built by the Ministry of Education for the education and care of the children of young parents who attend the Kimihia Parents’ College.
The Kimihia Parents’ College is a teen parent unit, attached to Linwood College, for the education of young parents under the age of 19 years.
We started in 2005 and the Centre was officially opened in March 2006 by the then Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Helen Clark.
Originally the Centre had two areas – one for children under two years, and the other for older children. In 2008 the Trust had an additional wing built specifically for the care of infants. So we are able to offer three areas to cater for the needs of the children.
As time went by we became aware of the needs of other children in the community so in 2012 we opened our doors and welcomed all children between the ages of 3 months and 5 years.
